Important Medicaid Enrollment Change
For the past three years, individuals and families have not been required to renew their Medicaid benefits. This was due to the Public Health Emergency (PHE) declared in March 2020 by the federal government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. A law that provided continuous enrollment in Medicaid with no terminations was also passed. This enabled all existing and newly enrolled families to retain their Medicaid benefits on an ongoing basis without going through the regular renewal process.
The federal COVID-19 pandemic policy ends March 31, 2023. This event ends continuous enrollment and marks a return to normal eligibility processes.
All Medicaid participants must renew their benefits starting April 1, 2023.

Texas and Colorado Medicaid FAQs
Why do I need to renew my Medicaid benefits quickly?
Texas
More than 2.5 million Texans will need to renew their Medicaid benefits when continuous enrollment ends! Administrative burdens in the enrollment process may cause many individuals and families to lose coverage temporarily if they don’t renew in a timely manner.
Families enrolled in Medicaid will start receiving renewal notices as early as February 2023. Texas Health and Human Services has experienced significant staffing shortages which have caused renewal application processing delays. The upcoming enrollment rush will likely stress the renewal processing system even further. Renew ASAP to ensure your Medicaid coverage is available when you need it. Once you renew, you will not have to renew again until the certification period expires
Colorado
You cannot renew your Colorado Medicaid benefits early. However, you should be able to find your renewal date by logging into your CO.gov/PEAK account. You will receive a renewal packet in your mail, email, or your PEAK inbox, so check them frequently.
Once you receive the packet, act quickly and return your application. More people will be renewing each month than ever before, so administrative burdens in the enrollment process may cause many individuals and families to lose coverage temporarily.
