Like any other dental treatment,

has its share of responsibilities, and cleanliness has taken its place among the most important ones. Since it is recommended to wear Clear Aligner for a minimum of 20 hours a day, it can lead to hygiene maintenance difficulties, giving way to plaque, stains, and food debris damage. The silver lining here is how easy the process is; here’s how you can clean Clear Aligner retainer following these simple methods.

What should you use to clean your Clear Aligner?

There are several easy and effective ways to clean Clear Aligner trays. These are some of the ones I find the most effective:

Cleaning Clear Aligner With The Help Of Specialized Crystals

  • Remove Aligner and Rinse: Start off by taking out your clear aligners and giving them a quick yet thorough rinse under tap water. Make sure to keep a clean bowl with you for the next step.
  • Soak with Crystals: Place your Clear Aligner trays in the container to clean them up. Make sure to fill it with enough lukewarm water to submerge the aligners fully. Dissolve a single pack of Clear Aligner cleaning crystals.
  • Mix and Make the Solution: Gently move the bowl for around 20 seconds for the crystals to dissolve and distribute evenly.
  • Soak the Aligners: Let your aligners sit in the solution for at least 15 minutes. It is up to you if you want to prolong the soak for a more thorough cleaning.
  • Final Rinse: Once you are through with soaking, run it under the tap water to rinse both the aligners and the container with warm water.

Other Methods To Clean Clear Aligner

If you cannot get your hands on specialized crystals that clean Clear Aligner, here are some common alternative methods that can work well.

How Often Should I Clean My Clear Aligner Trays?

You should clean your Clear Aligner aligners every day, at least once a day. Usually, the best time is when you brush your teeth and do your oral hygiene routine. Decide if it is more convenient to clean them when you brush your teeth in the morning or at night, choose a cleaning method and try to stick with it.

Everyday Maintenance Tips to Clean Clear Aligner

Incorporate the following tips into your daily cleaning routine to ensure your aligners remain free from contents that can compromise their function:

  • Morning Routine: Make it a habit to rinse and clean Clear Aligner trays and teeth as soon as you get up to get rid of plaque formation and other consequences.
  • Regular Rinse: Every time you remove your aligners, quickly rinse them under warm water to prevent the formation of bacterial film.
  • Post-Meal Brushing: Remember to brush your teeth after eating to minimize the risk of cavities. If you cannot do that every time after eating, thoroughly rinsing with mouthwash would do.
  • Periodic Soaking: Keep your aligners fresh and transparent by soaking them every few days in a Clear Aligner cleaning solution.
  • Store Them In A Case When Not In Use: When not in use, always store your aligners in their designated case.
  • Use Lukewarm Water: Always use lukewarm water for cleaning your aligners, as extremely hot water can warp and damage them.
